RALEIGH, N.C. — Just a few weeks after breaking the school’s indoor 5000 meter record at the MEAC Indoor Championships, Mercyline Kimaiyo made more history over the weekend at the Raleigh Relays hosted by N.C. State.
Kimaiyo took 48th amongst some of the nation’s best distance runners in the 10,000 meters, finishing in 36:39.16. The mark broke NSU’s program record of 36:51.77, set by Rachel Webb in 2016.
Norfolk State sophomore Leslie Young got her second outdoor campaign underway with a personal record in the discus throw (138-3) to finish 24th. She also took 29th in the javelin throw with a toss of 111-6, adding a 147 foot, five inch hammer throw.
Senior Arieana Parker led the way in the latter event, posting a hammer throw of 168 feet, 10 inches for 33rd.
Freshman Brooklyn Robinson made a spectacular outdoor debut, running the 100 meter hurdles in 14.32 seconds.
Shining in both track and field events, De’Niya Gravely took 17th in the triple jump with a distance of 38 feet, 5.5 inches. She also ran the 100 meter dash in 12.34 seconds.
Armani Harris notched a pair of personal records in Raleigh, finishing the 200 meters in 25.22 seconds, before posting a 400 meter time of 58.04.
Norfolk State’s 4×100 meter relay team took 12th in a highly competitive field, finishing the race in 47.53 seconds.
